Space Oddity

(piano playing) Commander Hadfield (singing): Ground control to major Tom Ground control to major Tom Lock your Soyuz hatch and put your helmet on Ground control to major Tom Commencing countdown, engines on Detach from Station, and may god’s love be with you (piano playing) (music swells) This is ground control to major Tom, you’ve really made the grade And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear But it’s time to guide the capsule if you da-a-a-are This is major Tom to ground control, I’ve left forevermore And I’m floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different toda-a-a-ay For here am I sitting in a tin can Far above the world Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing left to do (acoustic guitar riff) (music swells) Though I’ve flown one hundred thousand miles I’m feeling very still And before too long I know it’s time to go Our Commander comes down back to earth and knows Ground control to major Tom, The time is near, there’s not too long Can you hear me, Major Tom? Can you hear me, Major Tom? Can you hear me, Major Tom? Can you… Here am I floating in my tin can Last glimpse of the world Planet Earth is blue, and there’s nothing left to do (acoustic guitar riffs) (instrumental)

Nice video, bet it really pisses of the flat earthers. Pretty sure by this video that the earth is indeed…, a sphere.

for a person who only does music part time, his songs are INCREDIBLY GOOD.
Also who thinks Chris should sing Rocketman (Elton John)

ground control to major bob
ground control to major bob
lock your spaceship hatch and put SAS on
ground control to major bob

commencing countdown, engines on
detach from station, and may kraken have mercy

this is ground control to major bob, you've really made the grade,

"There are three sorts of people: those who are alive, those who are dead, and those who are at sea" Aristotle.
Aristotle coudn't imagine the fourth sort…^^

Bravo Chris!
After all this time this song still gives me the original goosebumps. Greatest motivation to achieve the extra mile

Chris really nailed everything about this song, the mood, the lyrics, the feeling, the intent of David Bowie. It is no wonder David like it and convinced the copyright holders to allow it on YouTube . . . Thanks to all, we are all better off having access to this wonderful rendition of David's remarkable song . . . . Ground control to Major Tom . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This video was one of the first times i realized music and film making could really make me feel something, outside of maybe a movie or a song before this, this truly “spoke to me” persay

it was this video, in my 7th grade science class that REALLY made that kind of impact, it made me realize what i truly loved, even without knowing it then.

Now music, cinematography, and art in general is such a big part of my life i couldn’t even imagine myself without it.

The Rocket Man Chris Hadfield! Thanks for all the people that travelled to space, and those who died trying to do so, and , as well, the people here on earth, who worked to make this dream of humanity come true! Wellcome to the USS HADFIELD: Destiny… Mars!!! 🚀Greetings ! São Paulo/Brasil

I remember this being my introduction to music in 4th grade. Mr.Perez if you’re out there you’re an awesome dude and you’re still my model as a human being.

Every pound of payload you send into space is quite expensive. It probably cost several ten thousand dollars to send that guitar up.
And it was worth every cent.

The 10,000 dislikes are from flat earth, moon hoaxers. I wonder if they laugh at the people that say the 12 astronauts that walked on the moon all took photos of alien bases.

Why is this dude just so cool? Is there a single person who doesn't like this guy?

I love this, and the way they changed the lyrics really portrayed the feeling of coming back home to earth after months of staying in the ISS which has somehow already became a home for you, and how you will miss the feeling of being in the space, zero gravity, having the best view of the earth and the universe; a part of you wouldn't actually want to come home but sadly your time is up.

Rest in Peace to all who’ve sacrificed their lives and more to humanity’s expansion into the final frontier.

It could have been Awesome if he sang rocket man by Elton John- " I miss the earth so much, I miss my wife. Its lonely out in space…"

Hey, CIA Dude

I liked your first CIA blue screen CNN scam ( https://youtu.be/1LK9a8AT2b8 ) better than this one. 😁

Holy shit this might be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen…and yes I am including Christopher Walken in pulp fiction… though I could do without the JJ Abrams lens flares…

I think the fact this almost has the same amount of views as the Bowie version speaks volumes of how good Chris is at being a musician

Why YouTube, why six years later you recommend me this? It os awesome and you made me wait 6 years to watch this

Hatfield made more for the popularity of that stupid ISS than two decades of propaganda

Here's my problem. According to rocket scientists around the world, for a spacecraft to reach orbit 96-97% of the vehicle's mass must be fuel.
Only leaving 3% for the craft and it's cargo. In order to get that guitar into orbit you would need approximately 33 times its weight in fuel. Considering
how costly that would be for us taxpayers, why the hell is it there?
