New Super-Fast MRI Technique: Singing ‘If I Only Had a Brain’

I could while away the hours,
conferrin’ with the flowers, consultin’ with the rain. And my head I’d be scratchin’ while my thoughts were busy hatchin’
If I only had a brain. I’d unravel every riddle
for any individ’le, in trouble or in pain. With the thoughts I’d be thinkin’
I could be another Lincoln If I only had a brain. Oh, I could tell you why
the ocean’s near the shore. I could think of things I never thunk before. And then I’d sit, and think some more. I would not be just a nuffin’
my head all full of stuffin’, My heart all full of pain. And perhaps I’d deserve ya,
and be even worthy of ya, If I only had a brain.

"Researchers use a new technique that is 10-times faster than standard MRI scanners to illustrate how the hundreds of muscles in our neck, jaw, tongue, and lips work together to produce sound.
Assistant professor in Speech and Hearing Science, and Beckman Institute faculty member, Aaron Johnson demonstrates the real-time imaging capabilities in song."

Have you seen the music video "Better Man Than He" by Sivu? It's very beautiful, and features very similar visuals.

This is fucking creepy.
Seriously.
We're watching the inside of a guys head whilst he sings.
Do you people not see how amazingly strange that is?

This is an awesome new technology. Meanwhile there's only 1 MRI machine for the 10,000 marines stationed in Okinawa. Awesome.

I'd love to have a side-by-side recording of him with a normal camera and an MRI recording next to it.

Kind of disappointing really. The mouth and throat imaging is an indistinct blur. An x-ray movie is much sharper:

I was hoping to see color highlighting of regions of the brain that are active during singing.

This is a true story.

One day I'd like to make a video about it.

One of the guys who INVENTED the MRI (an Indian guy – surname Danesh) is a very close personal friend of my dad.

The white guys who invented it along side him snubbed him when it came to the nobel prize.

I will eventually make proof of this.

Would using this technology be an improvement over standard CINE MRI for viewing CSF flow in Arnold-Chiari malformation patients and/or those who have a syrinx in their spine to find out where the blockage is?

Overtonesinging on fast MRI-video!! Now THIS is pretty amazing!
(I personally use this technique for 12+ years now… and it is called "Wolfgang's Asymmetric L-technique" 🙂

There are certainly a variety of details like that to take into consideration. That may be a nice level to convey up. I offer the ideas above as basic inspiration however clearly there are questions like the one you convey up where an important factor will likely be working in trustworthy good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged around things like that, but Im sure that your job is clearly recognized as a fair game. Both girls and boys really feel the impression of only a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
