Ellen’s Writers Speak the Lyrics at Barnes & Noble

You know how we tell kids
not to talk to strangers? Well, I do the opposite
with my writers. I send them out and
I make them talk to strangers using
only song lyrics, because it makes me
very, very happy. So the other day, I sent Lauren
and Bente to Barnes & Noble. And here’s what happened. [MUSIC – ARIANA GRANDE AND
SOCIAL HOUSE, “BOYFRIEND”] (SINGING) I know we
be so complicated. I can’t have what I want,
but neither can you. You ain’t my boyfriend. You ain’t my boyfriend. Boyfriend. Hm? I ain’t your girlfriend. Okay. But you don’t want me
to see nobody else. Yeah, I don’t know you. And I don’t want you
to see nobody else. [CHUCKLING] But you ain’t my boyfriend. And I ain’t your girlfriend. Okay. But you don’t want me
to touch nobody else. Are you in line? Here’s a book called in pain. The story of right now. [MUSIC – SHAWN MENDES AND
CAMILA CABRELLO, “SEÑORITA”] (SINGING) I love it when
you call me señorita. I love it when you
call me señorita. I wish I could pretend
I didn’t need ya. What? But every touch is ooh la la. It’s true la la. Oh, I should be running. But you keep me coming for ya. We danced for hours in the sand. Tequila sunrise. (SINGING) Her body fit
right in my hands, la la la. Her body fit right
in my hand, la la la. (SINGING) It felt
like ooh la la la. It felt like ooh la la. Yeah. (SINGING) I love it when
you call me señorita. I wish I could pretend
I didn’t need ya. But every touch is– Oh my God. He’s very handsome. (SINGING) I love it when
you call me señorita. I love it when you
call me señorita. [LAUGHS] (SINGING) I wish I could
pretend I didn’t need ya. I wish I could pretend
I didn’t need ya. (SINGING) But every
touch is ooh la la la. And every touch is ooh la la. (SINGING) Ooh, I
should be running. Oh, I should be running. (SINGING) Ooh, you
keep me coming for you. [MUSIC – TAYLOR SWIFT FEATURING
BRENDON URIE, “ME!”] (SINGING) I promise that you’ll
never find another like me. I know that I’m a
handful, baby, uh. I know that I’m a handful, baby. Huh? I know I never
think before I jump. How’s your day going? You’re the kind of
guy the ladies want. Oh Yeah? Yeah, there are a lot of
cool chicks out there. That’s true. I know I went
psycho on the phone. You went psycho? I never leave well enough alone. Oh no? Trouble’s going to
follow me where I go. (CHUCKLING) Yeah. Married? Like a rainbow with
all the colors. (CHUCKLING) Yeah. Baby doll, when it
comes to a lover, I promise you’ll never
find another like me. Oh yeah? Ooh ooh ooh. What’s your name? Lauren. Lauren? Mhm. Hakeem. Nice to meet you. You as well. (SINGING) You’re
the only one of you. Baby, that’s the fun of you. And I promise– Girl, what’s your number? [CHUCKLING] (SINGING) I know I tend
to make it about me. I know I tend to
make it about me. Yeah. I know you never get
just what you see. Never know. But I’ll never bore you, baby. That’s good to know. You come here often? Thank you. I’ll be– I’ll be right back. (SINGING) Cause one of these
things is not like the others. Livin’ in winter,
I am your summer. I should have taken my
ring off and thrown it. (SINGING) Nobody’s
gonna love you like me. [APPLAUSE] Oh, thanks Lauren and Bente. We’ll be right back.
